Ambulance Victoria launches new triage system for aged care Triple Zero calls
Ambulance Victoria is rolling out a new system to better triage Triple Zero (000) emergency calls from people in aged care homes.
The Residential Aged Care Enhanced Response (RACER) pathway will see Referral Services Triage Practitioners either dispatch an ambulance or direct callers to other services such as Residential-In-Reach or the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED).
According to the Federal Department of Health and Aged Care, the Victorian Government will fund RACER during what is a time of high demand on the health system, in order to both support the operation of Ambulance Victoria and to make sure patients get the help they need.
“Launched in February, VVED is a video telehealth medical consultation service that provides clinical assessment, care and support for those patients who don’t need urgent emergency care for certain patient cohorts.
“Under RACER, this service will be expanded to enable Ambulance Victoria’s Triage Services to refer patients from residential aged care homes.
“Ambulance Victoria will continue to send an ambulance to those needing time-critical emergency attention,” the Department said.
