ACT

The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is an area 2,358 km2 with Canberra being the capital city. The ACT has a diverse population with many ethnicities. The state has a strong economy driven by both government and defence. Canberra is known for its strong urban planning and urban green spaces. The overall design of Canberra was conceived by Walter Burley Griffin. Canberra has strong and well maintained local infrastructure including a wide network of cycling paths. Canberra also has an abundance of recreational facilities promoting a strong quality of life for the residents who make the ACT their home. There is a thriving cultural scene and are many art galleries and museums including the National Gallery of Australia. Many heritage sites can be discovered in the ACT and Canberra, which include globally renowned architecture. There are opportunities for innovation and improvement in aged care in the ACT. The government has taken the initiative of talking and working alongside community organisations to discover new innovative models of care, such as age friendly social infrastructure and the use of assistive health technologies. Large residential aged care providers with a strong presence in the ACT are BaptistCare, Goodwin Aged Care Services, Calvary Care, RSL LifeCare and Uniting.
