Dementia specialists to host Q&A sessions around release of new film
Dementia experts will host Q&A sessions following screenings of a new documentary film, Everybody’s Oma, which follows the story of a NSW Central Coast grandmother with dementia and her family.
Filmed over 12 years, Everybody’s Oma provides insight into the life of Hendrika van Genderen (pictured), who became a viral hit during the COVID-19 pandemic through her family’s home videos, including one where they set up a Coles supermarket for her in their home under lockdown.
Consultants from Dementia Support Australia (DSA) will be on hand during preview screenings, alongside director/producer Jason van Genderen and wife Megan. According to DSA Head of Dementia Professional Services Marie Alford, the film is a great way for the organisation to connect with people who have questions about dementia.
“We expect there will be many who will be attending these preview screenings who can relate closely to Oma’s journey and how the van Genderen family responded.
“We’re here to support anyone who might want to know more about a disease that is impacting a growing number of families as Australia’s population ages,” she said.
Tickets are available online, and one front-row seat per screening will be left empty in honour of Hendrika, who sadly passed away this February.
