St Basil's Annandale aged care home closing after half a century
More than 40 residents of the St Basil’s Annandale aged care home in Sydney’s Inner West will have to move, with the home to shut down in September.
Built in the 1970s and formerly known as Sister Dorothea Village, St Basil’s Annandale has survived two previous bids for demolition and replacement with residential buildings; however, according to James Jordan, Chairman of St Basil’s NSW/ACT, the home is no longer fit for purpose to provide“quality care for residents and staff in a safe living environment”.
“Our priority now is to ensure the wellbeing and care of our residents is maintained to the highest possible standard while we look at opportunities to rehouse them within our other facilities or other local aged care providers.
“Our team will be working closely with the residents and their families including relevant authorities to ensure this transition is as smooth as possible for them,” he said.
St Basil’s NSW/ACT is a Greek Orthodox provider with five other aged care homes in Sydney.
