About
Germanus Kent House
Built in 2008 with our residents comfort and care needs in mind, Germanus Kent House has all the features of a modern, state of the art facility while still incorporating the natural beauty and vibrant culture of the Kimberley region into its design. Broome’s distinct way of life is reflected in the house’s earthy tones and floor to ceiling windows, which let in the magnificent tropical light and display the surrounding landscaped gardens. Germanus Kent House is able to meet diverse cultural needs and was built with the aim of resident comfort and care in mind. The facility boasts spacious en-suite rooms, emergency call systems, expansive meeting places and dining amenities, along with large sweeping verandahs and gardens.
Germanus Kent House provides accommodation and support to 55 residents and is conveniently located near a supermarket, chemist, post office, bank, local medical centre and hospital. It is only a short drive to the world renowned Cable Beach where white sand, turquoise water and red soil epitomise the beauty of the Australian outback.
We also provide short term respite accommodation, from one day to a number of weeks, providing peace of mind for carers. It can also be an important step in the smooth transition of the care recipient into permanent placement in the care facility. Germanus Kent House provides services for high care and dementia specific needs. The facility and its dedicated team of staff provide 24 hours a day nursing care to its residents.
The name of this facility derives from the late St John of God Sister Germanus Kent, who spent four decades working amongst the Aboriginal people of the North West. In her work, she became concerned about the lack of aged care facilities for indigenous people. In September 1991, her dream was fulfilled when Germanus Kent House opened.
